I principally work on wood, based on drawings and observations made around the area in which I live. I am interested in finding fleeting moments in the nature and wildlife of the city, moments which relate to a particular season or time of day. I use my immediate outdoor environment of garden, allotment and town moor as a subject matter.

I like to use wood for the challenges it brings in terms of working with or against the grain, for the way in which the features of a particular plank can be incorporated into the design, and for the textural quality it gives to the finished print. I am interested in exploring the degrees of subtlety and transparency that can be achieved with woodcut, a medium that readily lends itself to use of strong images and colour.

Most recently I have been making prints inspired by the Danish island of Bornholm , in the Baltic sea.
